Rogues are known for three distinct specializations. The first is known as Combo Points, which seem to be based on a sequence of timing-based attack that adds damage. Director Luis Barriga likened it to a sort of rhythm game. The other one is Shadow Realm, which puts you into temporary stealth in order to strike without injury during combat D2R Items. Lastly, Exploit Weakness is an action-based specialization in which an icon will pop up on an enemy and you need to be able to anticipate an attack to deal more damage. The players don't need to choose one specialization and can combine abilities to create your own custom builds and playstyles.
In a conversation with Director of games Luis Barriga, he stated that the first Diablo Rogue was a starting point for them to further develop the character class in Diablo IV.
"So you could say of the Rogue is the godmother is it not? In this particular case, is similar to other Dexterity class in RPGs," he said. "What I'm trying to say is that we can include all those elements to the class we enjoyed from The Assassin or The Demon Hunter. Then, with Diablo IV we're hoping to expand beyond D1.
We're stating that The Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye, is one of the groups you'll come across, the remnants of them anyway because it's an organization that was destroyed and lost in time for a short period however, maybe players will learn what they've actually been doing. There's also just the different cutthroats that are out there in the world and learn from any of them. We've managed to take the class to be an extremely root-based fantasy as a base point from which to buy diablo 2 resurrected items then add all the ideas that we'd like to have in a Dexterity focused class."
